Prizes to Meritorious students

Objective of the practice:

  • To motivate the students to reach higher levels of success and keep consistency in their academic performance.
  • To support the hard-working students.
  • To inspire the slow learners to bring the best result.
  • To teach the values of ‘generosity’ and a ‘sense of social responsibility among the students.

The Context

  • The Department of Chemistry is established in the year 2018.
  • It has been observed that the majority of the students with Biology combinations have developed a sense of phobia of the subject.
  • Therefore, the Department has resolved to give prizes to the meritorious students.

Practice

  • The Department identifies the subject topper and group topper of every semester.
  • The students are appreciated in the class.
  • Such students are given away Textbooks, Notebooks and other academic material required for the forthcoming semester.
  • They were appreciated and given Prizes by the chief guest at the College Annual Day function.
  • The Faculty from other Departments are motivated by the concept and have come forward to implement the same.

Evidence of Success:

  • The academic achievements of meritorious students inspire slow learners.
  • Meritorious students are motivated and become more focused on academics.
  • More number of students developed an interest in the subject.
  • Students secured seats in M.Sc. Chemistry in Prestigious institutions.

Problems encountered and resources required:

  • Often it becomes difficult to motivate the students to overcome the phobia.
  • Many students are first-generation learners and lack the basic knowledge of the subject.
  • The students do not easily comprehend certain topics in the syllabus.
