ARRANGEMENT OF HOSTEL FACILITY
Objective of the Practice:
- To provide accommodation and food free of cost.
- To support the students hailing from economically weaker section by accommodating in Govt. run hostels.
- To facilitate the students in getting accommodation near by the college so that time can be managed to concentrate more on studies.
- To enhance opportunity of quality education among rural students.
- To motivate the rural students to join and study in the capital city – Hyderabad.
- To facilitate the students by providing opportunity of attending centers to appear for competitive exams
Context:
Since most of the students hail from rural families, their abilities to study in the capital city like Hyderabad will be very less. The college is situated in the heart of the city and it is very near by the Hyderabad Central railway station and Bus station. It is observed that most of the students prefer admission in the VGDC due to its locational advantage. Therefore in this context, the Department of Commerce has taken an initiative to provide the students with the basic necessities which will certainly prove to very helpful and a bliss.
Practice:
- At the time of admissions, students and parents from rural areas approach for the facility of hostel accommodation.
- It is a practice of the department to provide the details of Hostel facilities of nearby the college for different categories of students belonging to BC, SC, ST and minority sections.
- Further, department faculty maintains a good rapport with the Hostel wardens to increase the hostel admission for VGDC students.
Evidence of success:
- Students hailing from rural areas and new to the city are admitted in hostels near by the college with good accommodation without wasting their time in search of the same.
- Admitted Students are spreading the information of this practice to the prospective students of their native areas.
- The intake of students’ admission from rural areas is increasing every year.
- The admitted students after their completion of Degree got placed in good companies.
- It is observed that the students admitted in hostels, after the college hours are benefited by attending coaching centers to appear in competitive exams
Problems encountered and resources required:
- As the numbers of hostels are very few and intake of students is very less, some students are unable to get admission in hostels.
- As the intake of students at VGDC is increasing every year, demand for hostels also increasing which a challenging task.
- Most of the Girls students enquire about the hostel facility in the college campus.
- Govt. run hostels are very few for Girls students which is serious problem and can be resolved by the support of Govt. of Telangana
