- The Department of Political Science was established in 1966 with Telugu as the medium of instruction in the college.
- Political Science is a one of the undergraduate Programme with the combination of History, Economics, PublicAdministration, Computer Applications and Mass Communication and Journalism.
- It is one of the Social Science Discipline that deals with the system of Government and the analysis of political activity and political behaviours.
- The study of political science has ancient roots that can be traced to the works of Plato and Aristotle which were written nearly 2500 years ago.
The Department offers SEC and GE courses like Contemporary Political Economy, Citizenship Laws, Rights and Duties, Legislative Procedures and Practices, Human Rights.
VISION:The Vision of Department is to provide good education to the students from diverse backgrounds of the society and inculcate human values to enable them to face the challenges of life with courage, confidence and mould them in to socially responsible citizens. To empower the youth from the Marginalized Sections of the Society, through quality education, besides enabling them to meet the challenges of the contemporary society.

- To translate the Vision in to reality the Department is committed to Expose the students especially the under privileged ones to variety of activities, academic and extra-academic, aimed at their overall development.
- To inculcate moral values and social awareness among the students.
- To promote civic partnership and engagement for solutions in public affairs.

- We are dedicated to the formation of intellectually deep, civically-engaged, globally-aware, and ethically-minded students.

Orientation on civils and other competitive exams
The Department of Political Science, vivekananda government Degree College, vidyanagar, Hyderabad conducted an awareness programme on the topic orientation on civils and other competitive exams on 01-08-18 .
National Voters Day; National Voters Day was celebrated on 25. 01.2019 in the college. In this regard various activities were conducted to the students . Department has conducted essay elocution competitions for the students.
Extension lecture
An extension lecture was organised on the topic National Voters Day on 25-1-19. The resource person for the programme was Prof. P.H. Mohammad, Department of sociology, MANUU, Hyderabad. He explained in detail about the voting percentage in India and across the world, evolution of democracy, rights and obligations of citizens.
Extension lecture:
An extension Lecture was organised on the occasion of National Voters Day the resource person was Prof E.Venkatesu, Department of Political Science, Hyderabad Central university on 25-1-20.
Celebrated the National Voters Day and took the oath on 25-1-21
Field trip:
Organized a Field Trip to Historical Exhibition on Untold Telangana at Art Gallery, Ravindra Bharathi Hyderabad for B.A 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students on 06 -02-19. Students were enlightened about Telangana history from the megalithic period to 18th century by archeological scholar Mr.Aravind.
Field trip: Organized a field trip to Telangana Legislative Assembly Gallery visit on 21-9-2019 .BA 1st ,2nd and 3rd year students visited the sessions through the gallery and had a personal experience of legislative procedure.
Awareness programme on EVMS organised an awareness programme on EVMS with the collaboration of GHMC and Election Commission on the occasion of C-VIGIL on 13-3-19.
Celebrations of birth anniversary of Dr.B.R.AMBEDKAR
An extension lecture was organized on the topic Ideology of Dr.B.R. Ambedkar. The resource person for the programme was Prof.Adapa satyanarayana (rtd), Department of History, osmania university, Hyderabad. He explained in detail about the social discriminations in Indian society, caste annihilation, and economy and education system.
National youth day was celebrated on the occasion of swami vivekananda birthday on 12-1-2021.

Objective of the Practice:
Bridge Course
- To develop Understanding of society amongst the Non Arts students.
- To overcome any barrier between subjects learned at the intermediate level
and subjects they would concentrate in degree classes.
- This course provides a better transition phase to prepare themselves before the onset of course for first semester
- To help students to understand the theoretical concepts in social science.
The Context
The Department of Political Science is established in the year 1966. It has been felt that the teaching-learning can be enhanced by giving this bridge course.
Bridge course can be considered as supplementary knowledge that can be provided to students to impart basic knowledge inthem about the advanced subjects that will be taught to them in the upcoming future.
Practice
- The students used to participate in Discussions and Debates on social issues.
- The students have participated in quiz, Essay writing and elocution competitions on the Special occasions.
- It helped the students in Acquiring thesocial values.
- The field visits to Assembly sessions have helped the students to get the practical knowledge of law making.
- Students have a better understanding of the working of various political institutions including decentralized institutions state legislatures and parliament and relate this functioning to the greater cause of nation building as a responsible citizen.
